Finding The Good ================ Date: May 13, 2026 Summary: In this heartfelt reflection, Sandy Adams shares how Easton’s beauty can be seen not only in its streets, parks, and downtown charm, but also in the people who are often overlooked. Drawing from her own experience with hardship and homelessness, Sandy explains how those struggles helped her see the hidden needs in the community and inspired the creation of Friends Helping Friends Network, Inc. Her story is a reminder that good news is not just something we find. It is something we become when we notice others, walk beside them, and help restore hope, dignity, and confidence one step at a time. URL: https://www.yourgood.news/stories/finding-the-good/ Easton is one of the most beautiful places I know. Walking through downtown Easton, especially in the fall, is absolutely breathtaking. To some, it’s simply a town that’s growing too quickly — becoming overcrowded, filled with traffic and constant movement. And yes, I see that too. But if you truly stop and look, the real beauty can still be found. It’s in the quietness of a walk through town. In sitting on a bench in the little downtown park, simply watching people pass by. As I was going through struggles similar to those faced by so many others, I began seeing Easton in a completely different light. You know what many people don’t see? They don’t see the woman sitting quietly across the park who is actually sitting where she plans to sleep that night. They don’t see the person who walked past them while they were enjoying ice cream from Storm & Daughters — someone who didn’t even have enough money for dinner, let alone a treat. They don’t see the child getting off the school bus whose mother brought them to the park simply to keep their mind off the fact that they didn’t know where they would sleep that night. Yes, this is happening in our beautiful Easton. In fact, it’s happening in communities everywhere. But here in Talbot County, much of it has been quietly overlooked. And yet, Easton truly is a beautiful place. When you’re sitting in the park trying to heal, listening to children laugh while they play, there’s a moment when you can finally breathe. There are many things people do just to hold themselves together while facing impossible situations. But when you’re overwhelmed by your circumstances, it can be incredibly difficult to see beyond them. That’s why we are here. We want to be the good news. I now understand why I had to walk through everything I’ve experienced. It gave me the ability to truly help others. During some of the hardest moments of my own struggles, I would often ask myself, “What would I want someone to do that would genuinely help me?” Because so often, the systems already in place don’t truly help people move forward. The more I asked myself that question, the more I realized there is a better way to help others — a way that restores dignity, builds confidence, and creates real change. The good news is that change is possible. Through Friends Helping Friends Network, Inc., we’ve watched people turn their lives around one step at a time. Those who truly want their circumstances to change begin creating change for themselves — and they do not walk through it alone. We meet with them weekly, encourage them daily, and walk beside them as they rebuild their lives. As Norm mentioned, we met at Denny’s. What he didn’t know was that I was sitting there creating Friends Helping Friends Network, Inc. on my laptop… while homeless myself. Sitting in Denny’s allowed me to have a roof over my head for the night. I didn’t look defeated or broken that night, and I’m not even sure I ever told him. But building that vision gave me hope. It gave me purpose. While trying to survive myself, I was creating something that could genuinely help others survive too. It was an extremely cold night, and I remember wondering where other people were sleeping and whether they were okay. Then Norman, Joe, and Larry walked in, and in that moment, I knew the world could still be a better place because of people like them. My heart smiled that night knowing they wanted to make a difference. And it smiled even more because I gained lifelong friends. Easton truly is a beautiful place. Full of beautiful people. Full of God’s beauty. So go ahead — take that walk through town. Sit quietly for a moment. Breathe deeply. And maybe, if you look closely enough, you’ll begin to see what I see.
