Why Your Good News Exists

Your Good News begins with a simple mission: to find and share the good things happening in Easton, and to invite the community to help gather those stories.

One of my favorite movies is Tomorrowland, the 2015 film starring George Clooney and Britt Robertson.

In case you have not seen it, the movie begins with a very optimistic teenage girl named Casey, the daughter of a NASA engineer. Casey is bombarded with bad news everywhere she goes, but her optimistic worldview drives her to ask a simple question:

“How can we fix it?”

“It” being the problems of the world.

I am a news junkie. I am also an optimist. And like Casey, I often find myself asking, “How can we fix it?”

Your Good News is one of those answers.

“How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!”

Romans 10:15

When Christ ascended into Heaven, He left a community behind. He gave us a journey, and it was not one we were meant to walk alone. We have Christ with us, and we also have each other.

No problem is too big. No hill too steep. No distance too far.

That does not mean every burden is easy. It does not mean every wound disappears overnight. But it does mean that through Christ, and through the love and good works of His people, broken things can be met with hope, courage, service, and grace.

“And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:”

Hebrews 10:24, KJV

It is my sincerest hope that Your Good News becomes part of your daily routine, not because it demands your attention, but because it blesses you. Like Casey in Tomorrowland, I believe many of us want to be reminded that good things are still happening in our community. There are doers, helpers, servants, neighbors, and, yes, even angels among us, making our community better one kind act at a time.

As we begin, Your Good News needs your help.

We need Good News Harvesters.

A Good News Harvester is someone who keeps their eyes open for the good things happening around us: a church serving the community, a nonprofit doing quiet work, a local business blessing a family, a neighbor helping a neighbor, a student doing something admirable, a volunteer effort, a fundraiser, an event, a testimony, or a small act of kindness that deserves to be seen.

You do not need to be a professional writer. You do not need to have a perfect story. You simply need to notice the good, gather the details, and send it our way.

If you know of good news in Easton or the surrounding community, please share it with us. Help us find the helpers. Help us tell the stories. Help us bring glad tidings of good things.
